HP DeskJet 4158e Ink Replacement Guide
- Make sure that the printer is turned on.
- Get access to the ink cartridges by opening the front cover of the printer.
- The ink cartridge's carriage will automatically move, so make sure to wait for it to stop moving before you proceed completely.
- Push down the ink cartridge to unlock and release it. Then, pull the cartridge out from the printer.
- Get your new CompAndSave HP 4158e ink cartridge. Open it over a sink or garbage can to avoid any mess in case it leaks, as sometimes, factories tend to overfill the ink cartridges. Make sure to touch the black plastic part only, then remove the covering tape that is usually bright in color and the plastic protective case, if there is, before installing it.
- Insert the ink for HP DeskJet 4158e into its respective slot, then gently push it in until it clicks into place.
- Close the front cover and try to print a test page.

What is the difference between 67XL and 67 ink?
HP 67 and HP 67XL have the same appearance and printer compatibility. The main difference between the two is the ink volume and the number of pages it can print. Standard yield HP 67 ink cartridges can print up to 120 pages for black and up to 100 pages for the tri-color. The high yield HP 67XL ink cartridges, on the other hand, can print up to 240 pages for black and up to 200 pages for tri-color at 5% page coverage.
Does HP ink work for all HP printers?
No. Not all HP printers use the same ink cartridges. Each HP printer has its own specifications and requires a specific ink cartridge model. You cannot install a different ink cartridge because the ink cartridge compartment size and copper contacts are not the same. For example, ink cartridges for HP DeskJet 4158e printer will not work for the HP ENVY 6220 and vice versa. Can I use HP 67 instead of 65?
The short answer is no. HP 67/67XL and HP 65/65XL ink cartridges have different printer compatibility. Installing an HP 67/67XL to a printer that uses HP 65/65XL will not be recognized by the printer and might cause some issues. So make sure only to install the ink cartridge intended for your printer.
