What do I do if my printer doesn't recognize my cartridges?

Here are a few easy steps to resolve this issue:

  1. Verify that the shipping tape is removed from the cartridge's gold contact points. Using these points, your printer will recognize the cartridge.
  2. If the tape was already removed, wipe the contact surface gently with a lint-free cloth to clean any ink residue that may be covering it and reinstall the cartridge into the printer.
  3. If it still does not register, try restarting your printer. Turn off the printer. Unplug the power cord and other cables, and wait 30 seconds. Plug the cables and cords back in and power on the printer.
If these troubleshooting issues do not work, there may be an issue with your printer's firmware which you will need to update on the printer brand's official website. Or the cartridge may be defective.

For HP 90x/95x/97x printer series, we now have the HP printer firmware downgrade page available for the step-by-step guide on how to roll your printer back to its default HP printer setup.
