ink troubleshooting
general

Misaligned vertical lines appear in the printout.

Run "Print Head Alignment" utility. Please refer to your printer manual for detail.

Print out white page; print quality is poor with gaps or faint areas in the printout.

  1. Did you remove the protective label covering the vent hole of the cartridges?
  2. The print head nozzle may need cleaning.
  3. The ink cartridges may need replacing.
  4. Make sure the paper Type or Media Type setting matches the paper you are using.
  5. For some cartridges, check the print head to see if replacement is needed.
  6. There is a very slight chance that you still get missing lines on your test page after 2 times of head cleaning. Simply turn off the printer and turn on the printer after at least 2 hours. Run a test page and you cartridge should work.

The color of the printout doesn't look right, some color is missing.

  1. Run a nozzle check to identify the missing colors.
  2. If the ink is not running out for the missing color, chances are, the print head of one or more cartridges get clogged. Please run the print head cleaning utility.
  3. For newly installed cartridges, if the problem persist after running print head cleaning twice, take out the cartridge, touch the ink nozzle with a soft tissue until the ink comes out; then install the cartridge.

While printing on plain paper is OK, banding appear on photo paper.

  1. Before you print photos, we recommend that you print a sample to a plain paper.
  2. You may need to run the print head cleaning utility more than once.

Our suggestions:

  1. To ensure best printing quality, use the printer at least once a week.
  2. Before installing the cartridges, read the cartridge manual sheet & instructions.
  3. Place the cartridges upright for ~30 minutes prior to use; this allows the ink to flow down to the print head and the air bubbles to rise. Do not over-shake the ink cartridge before installing it.
  4. Print a nozzle check page after installing the cartridge. Run print head cleaning utility if needed.

More installation tips for you

  1. If you forgot to remove the label, take out the ink cartridge; turn off the printer for a few minutes; then turn it on again to reinstall the ink cartridges with the label removed.
  2. Please follow the instruction in your printer-manual to clean the print head. Note that running the print head cleaning utility consumes ink; please do NOT over use it. To ensure best printing quality, we recommend that you use the printer at least once a week. Leaving the printer unused for a long time may cause clogging of the print head.
  3. the cartridge may not be recognized if the spring touching needle in the print head (the cartridge holder) is out of usage or damaged, or the spring tablet in the printer is out of usage. You may need to have the print head repaired or replaced.
  4. Priming the cartridge is a process that allows the print head to open up for the ink to come through. Get a damp paper towel, press and hold on the print head (copper strip facing down) for around 20-30 seconds. This will bring the ink to the surface of the print head, and the flow of the ink will start again.

remanufactured cartridges

Includes most Dell, HP, Lexmark, and Sharp

The printout contains no ink

  • Ensure that the tape covering the printhead is removed.
  • Wrap the cartridge in a paper towel and shake gently up and down (not side-way) for 6 times.
  • Stand the cartridge upright for a few minutes before using. Then get a damp paper towel, fold it into quarters and sit the cartridge print head down onto it. Hold the cartridge down to the damp paper towel for three minutes. This will help pull the ink out of the print heads, priming them and getting them ready to print. Clean the print head by rubbing alcohol. Finally, install the cartridge into your printer and print a few test pages.
  • Please make sure that the printer is set online (at the computer), and increase the darkness setting at the printer.

The printout has white lines, streaks, or is poor quality in general

  • Clean printhead with warm damp paper towel. Reinstall into printer, and run a cleaning cycle using the printer's software tool.
  • Wrap the cartridge in a paper towel and shake gently up and down (not side-way) for 6 times.
  • Place the cartridge in about 1/4 - 1/2 inch of warm water for a few minutes. When ink starts to slowly leak out take the cartridge out of the water and dry it using a soft cloth to "Q-tip." Then place it back in your printer and run the print head cleaning utility that comes with your printer software. You may have to run this 2-4 times before printing quality is reestablished.
  • Avoid touching contacts with fingertips. Slide printhead across a moist paper towel until you see clear horizontal bars of color. Clean the print head by rubbing alcohol. Reinstall and run head cleaning cycle.
  • If there are still having white lines or streaks, please run the alignment again at your printer.

Cartridge is leaking

  • The internal pressure in the vacuum is not balanced. The cartridge should work fine anyway. Let the cartridge sit (printhead down) on a paper towel for a few minutes, then clean it up and install.
  • (For high temperature area) When the cartridge is opened, the ink may be bubbled/dripped out of the cartridge if it has been stayed in high temperature environment for a long time. It is because the heat creates pressure within the sealed cartridge and that pressure blows the ink out when the cartridge is opened. Please try chilling the cartridge in the refrigerator (not freezer) for a couple hours before use.

Low ink message showing at the printer

  • All of our cartridges are fully filled with ink. However, there is a small number of our remanufactured cartridges causing printers to display low ink or empty messages. It is possible that those cartridges may not have been reset well during the remanufacturing process. You may turn off the ink level system at your printer (by pressing "Stop/Reset" button for 45 seconds) and press "OK" or "Go" button once for each cartridge. Although your printer will not track ink, our cartridges will print fine from start to finish.

Cartridges not "click" into the slots (For remanufactured HP 920XL and HP 564XL)

  • Try to bend the plastic arm outward from the cartridge. After the arm is bent outward, about 1 inch, the cartridge should "click" into the slot.

Cartridge is not recognized by the printer

  • Ensure that the tape covering the printhead is removed.
  • Take out the cartridge, turn off the printer, unplug the power cord and other cables, wait 15 minutes, then plug it back in, turn it back on and reload the cartridges.
  • (While the cartridge is out of the printer) Gently wipe cartridge printhead and circuitry with a nonabrasive towel to ensure there is no debris. Cleaning the copper part and the contact points with alcohol can work very effectively as well.
  • Reset the printer to factory's default configuration.
  • If it still not working, please re-install the CD, printer software and driver at your computer again.

Disable the ink level at your printer

  • You may press and hold the "Stop/Reset" button at your printer for 45 seconds to disable the ink level system.

Print out white page; print quality is poor with gaps or faint areas in the printout.

  • Make sure the tape covering print head was removed!
  • Air bubbles might be blocking the nozzle - wrap the cartridge with paper towel and slightly shake & squeeze a bit. The air should be cleared out once the correct color ink flowing out.
  • Printer contact may be dirty - gently wipe printer contact with paper tower, avoiding touching it with fingers.
  • print head might be partially clogged. You may try priming the cartridge. If still clogged, then Placing the clogged cartridge in 1/3 inch of warm water for 5 minutes. When ink starts to slowly leak out, take the cartridge out of the water and dry it using a soft cloth; placing it into your printer and run the print head cleaning utility.

Reset the new drum unit

  • When you install the new drum unit, please make sure to reset it at your printer. You may refer to the printer manual for details. It may show error message if the new drum unit is not reset properly at your printer.

compatible cartridges

Includes most Brother, Canon, Epson, and Xerox

The print quality is not very good or the printout contains no ink

  • Make sure that you have removed the foil or plastic strip covering the vent hole and the nozzle.
  • Make sure that the vent hole at the top of the cartridge and the nozzle are unblocked by any tape or plastic strip.
  • To ensure that the vent hole is unobstructed, use a paper clip or another small, pointed object to probe the vent for blockages.
  • Run the head cleaning cycle 2-3 times.
  • Please make sure that the printer is set online (at the computer). And increase the darkness setting at the printer.
  • If the color is still off, please install a whole set of our cartridges at your printer. It is possible that the formula of our ink is different from that of your original compatible cartridge.

Note that Epson printers should be turned on and used at LEAST once a month, or preferably once a week. If the printer has not been used in over 5-6 months, Epson recommends that you replace the ink cartridges.

The cartridge is not being recognized by the printer

  • Make sure that you have removed the foil or plastic strip covering the vent hole.
  • Also make sure that the cartridge you purchased is the correct one for your printer.
  • Make sure that printer cable (from printer to PC) is not loose.
  • Remove the cartridge from the printer.
  • Gently wipe the cartridge's computer chip with a cloth or paper towel. You may cleaned the copper part and the contact points with alcohol.
  • Power OFF the printer for 15 minutes
  • Power ON the printer and re-install the cartridge(s).
  • Reset the printer to factory's default configuration.
  • If it still not working, please re-install the CD, printer software and driver at your computer again.

The printer is out of color ink even though I print in black only. Why does this happen?

  • To keep the print head clear, the printer uses a small amount of ink from all the cartridges whenever it prints. Even if you set the printer software to print black only, some color ink is still being used.
